KING MURYEONG’S TOMB AND GONGJU NATIONAL MUSEUM

We headed south from Seoul and visited King Muryeong’s tomb.  This tomb was discovered in 1971 and yielded some beautiful treasures, such as golden diadems and jewelry belonging to the king and queen.  Korean royal tombs seem to be usually found in mounds.  Remarkably, none of the tombs found have been robbed – but many of them have not been excavated for religious reasons and out of respect to ancestors.  There are several burial mounds in this area of Korea, which is called Baekje.  After we visited the mounds, we went to the Gongju National Museum which houses most of the treasures found in the tombs.
